Catch, Kill or Release
Leigh Mill lake is regularly stocked with top-quality, hard-fighting rainbow, brown and blue trout raised at our supplier's hatchery at Duncton Mill in Sussex. Mostly weighing from 1.5 to 3 lbs, larger specimens are stocked from time to time.
Principal stockings are every few weeks in spring, early summer and autumn with occasional top-ups to maintain population. Last season 1350 rainbows/blues and browns were stocked.
The trout feast on nymphs, fry and terrestrials and there are good hatches of damsels, sedges, lake olives and alders.
We like to encourage catch and release particularly with blue and brown trout. Barbless or de-barbed hooks should be used and gentle handling is vital. A limit of ten fish per visit may be caught and released. Members wishing to take fish are limited to six per week.
Blue trout are our Top Gun aerial fighters jumping spectacularly when the hook sets. With distinctive metallic, silver-blue scales flashing in the sunshine, they're a thrilling sight for any angler.
Our catch averages and stocking intervals through five seasons to date can be made available on request.
